Funded with Kickstarter IV: I Heart Logistics

It is very apparent now why most of the time companies run businesses and not a single person that already has a full-time job. Of course if depends on the type of business that needs to be run. Either way, the process is immensely complex and is definitely at the very least a full-time job for one person, if not a team of at least 5.

As our first series of Destined Legends is now available for pre-order, I thought I'd take some time to reflect back on our journey in creating Destined Legends. Last week we covered the principle development of Destined Legends. Tonight, we're talking about our journey with Kickstarter and getting the game funded for production.

Tonight, we're talking about the principle development of the game, leading up to our Kickstarter campaign.

Presenting "Funded by Kickstarter," a five-part retrospective on the conception, development, and production of Destined Legends. I hope you enjoy this look behind the scenes.

With our Kickstarter funding in the books, we can now focus down...

With our Kickstarter funding in the books, we can now focus down on polishing the game itself. This week we resumed our play testing with a few friends. It definitely feels great playing the game again knowing that it will definitely be a reality.

With that sense of relief comes a pretty big sense of urgency. Now that the game is going to be made, and has a launch deadline, we really have to make sure the game is flawless.

We tested with two new people. Both of them were gamers this time around, so it gave us a good sense of what established games think of it. Surely enough, they had a blast with it. We had a postmortem afterwards which gave me a pretty great feeling once they started to share their feedback. We wanted the good, and the bad. Incredibly enough, most of our discussion with the bad revolved around one single item card, and if it was over-powered. If the absolute worst thing veteran gamers can think to talk about is a single item card, then I’d say we’re in pretty good shape.

Our big focus for this game is to get the game polished and ready for the Closed Beta Test Program that we offered exclusively through Kickstarter. We should be shipping out the beta kits out to everyone in mid-January.

Stay tuned for more.

The Final Hours

We are in the last few hours of this incredibly successful campaign. First, I’d like to thank each and every one of you contributors for believing in our vision for Destined Legends. When we set out to create this game, we could have never anticipated what it would eventually turn into. The response has simply been staggering. Destined Legends now has its own identity, and you all helped make that possible. We are all incredibly grateful for you continuing contributions. We are beside ourselves today, knowing that we are now able to bring our exact vision of Destined Legends into reality.

The campaign ends at 9PM PST. That leaves us with 8 hours to raise a relatively mere $1000 to hit out final stretch goal. Hitting that goal unlocks the 2 sideboard expansion packs for Earth & Water elements. This is definitely that final epic climactic uphill battle, but if we band together, we can get to that summit and accomplish something truly great.

So again, thanks to everyone who has helped get us to this point. This is a dream come true for all of us, and we can’t wait to release this franchise upon the world. We’re just getting started.

Open Letter to everyone I've ever met

Dear family and friends,

The past 3 years of my life has been an incredible Journey of self-discovery. I graduated college and began a part-time retail job at Apple. For those of you who don’t know me too well yet, I have always had the dream of making a living by owning my own company. So I founded one not too long ago, called Decobot. I used that brand t

o market my webcomic work that you might be familiar with, but that wasn’t my passion. I knew I had the potential to achieve something far greater. So I spent the past few years, trying to figure out which of my other ambitious ideas was worth pursuing. It took some soul searching, but about two years ago, I knew I wanted to make Destined Legends that pursuit.

Destined Legends began as an Idea for a videogame, back when I was in high school. Denis and I would talk about what kind of game it could be, and I would spend countless hours thinking up characters, stories, and game mechanics. Life went on, and about two years ago, seeing a great opportunity in its current market, I was inspired to create a tabletop card game with my brother Shawn. When it came time to figure out the theme of this card game, we chose my conveniently developed universe of Destined Legends, and so began an intensive development period.

Now we’re at a point where we can easily make this game a reality. We launched a fundraising campaign 15 days ago, on the website Kickstarter. Our goal was to raise a relatively modest $10,000 in order to produce the game in bulk. The turnout was staggering. In just 15 days of our 30 day campaign, we hit our goal, and can now have the game professionally printed. We achieved this with 15 more days to go in the campaign. That’s why I’m writing this today.

If you could ever have a chance to fulfill someone’s dreams, this is it. We want to do this full-time. $10,000 is the bare minimum we need to get the game made, but we still need more to ensure to successful continuation of this project for years to come, and to allow us to fully dedicate ourselves entirely to doing what we love.

Destined Legends has an incredible potential to expand far beyond our current plans. Comic books, apps, and even future videogames can be made possible with your help. So I hope you will visit our campaign page, and consider pledging on our little project. Your generous contributions will go farther than you know.

Sincerely,

Ali
